The Machine Shop’s Role In A Corporation
December 11th, 2008 by Heghine
This post will inform you about how a machine shop functions in an enterprise.
Note that a machine shop doesn’t refer to a store where machining tools are sold. It is the workshop where metal or hard materials such as some polymers are cut and shaped by multiple machine tools. Those tools include drills, lathes, milling, grinding and polishing machines, presses, cutting and welding equipment.
It’s common for a machine shop to be a standalone operation. Nevertheless, many corporations maintain internal machine shops to support their special business needs. This is common for those companies that have specialized equipment for daily use. There are various operations to be implemented such as welding parts of products, machine insertion of bolts, or others. When the machinery malfunctions, maintenance and repairs are done in a machine shop.
A machine shop requires skilled, qualified labor to provide the best maintenance. Trained employees control the machining process and make sure that the operation is done properly. The person who is in charge of hiring engineers to work in the shop and oversees their work is the machine shop supervisor.
Thus maintaining the machine shop is not an easy task. So if you intend to have one in your corporation, make sure you have the right staff to properly carry out the work.
